A 40-year-old female teacher has been arrested for allegedly forcing a 16-year-old male student to establish a sexual relationship with her in Mumbai. As per the police, a case has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and the accused teacher has been arrested. Another teacher who helped the accused was absconding, the Mumbai Police said.
The English teacher, who is married and has children, allegedly assaulted the student over one year. The teacher said she was attracted to the Class 11 student during their various meetings to set up dance groups for the high school annual function in 2023. The boy began avoiding her after their first sexual encounter in January 2024.
The teacher then asked one of her female friends to call him and convince the student that relationships between older women and teenage boys were "common." The teacher's friend also told the minor that they were made for each other.
The student decided to meet the teacher, who took him to an isolated spot and forcefully undressed him and assaulted him, the police said. Over the next few days, when the student developed acute anxiety, she even gave him some anti-anxiety pills.
The accused then started taking him out to various five-star hotels in South Mumbai and near the airport. She would often get him drunk before sexually harassing him. The teacher has been remanded to police custody until Wednesday.
